About
Why Quaverley exists
A piece is long, the week is short, and the question of what to do today has no good answer without a plan.
Quaverley began with a problem of structure. Most practice happens alone, and most of the work that makes a piece secure is unglamorous. It is a few bars, under tempo, brought back at the right time. Knowing which bars, and when, is the part that is hard to hold in your head. The app holds it instead.
Every piece gets a plan that covers the whole of it, and every step leaves a record. The record is the point. It shows what has been done, so progress does not depend on how the last session felt.
A piece becomes yours when you can play it.
The Quaverley manifesto
Printed editions are the model for how it looks. Paper and ink, hairline rules, a quiet palette, and colour reserved for difficulty alone. A page of Quaverley should feel like a score on a stand, not a game on a screen.
The name is a small joke about note values and a butler’s manner. It suits an app built to be useful, and to know when to stay quiet.
